Kaylyn + Peter: Sunman, Indiana Wedding Day

I am SO excited to finally be able to share Kaylyn & Peter’s wedding day with you! We had an absolutely beautiful and warm day in May and got so unbelievably lucky with the weather. It didn’t start raining until after we were inside for the day & kicking off their reception. Kaylyn & Peter are so perfect for one another and I can’t wait to share the story of their big day with you!

Bride and groom stand together in Sunman, Indiana on their wedding day while the groom looks at his bride while she smiles at the camera.

I started the day off by meeting Kaylyn & her bridesmaids at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman, Indiana right before Kaylyn got into her dress. This dress was absolutely made for her and SO stunning. Once she was dressed & ready, we headed outside for a first look with her dad and this ended up being such a sweet moment!! Peter & his groomsmen were getting ready in the school across from the church and were able to take a few fun photos before the ceremony started as well.

Kaylyn & Peter’s catholic ceremony was absolutely beautiful. It was so sweet to see Peter’s reaction to Kaylyn walking towards him and the emotion in Kaylyn’s dad’s face as he hugged his daughter at the end of the aisle. Whenever I sit down with a potential wedding client, one of the most common questions I’m asked is whether or not I recommend having a second photographer present for their wedding day. My answer is always YES, I absolutely recommend having a second photographer on your wedding day, even if both photographers are at the same location together, all day. Why? We have completely different perspectives. When Kaylyn was walking down the aisle with her dad, I was able to capture photos of Peter’s reaction to seeing her and photos of Kaylyn & her dad walking towards him. Brooke, one of my incredible second shooters, was able to stand in the church’s balcony and take photos of Kaylyn & her dad walking in from above. Such a special moment documented in different ways and from different perspectives!

After the ceremony, we took a few family photos at the church (but those are for Kaylyn & Peter to share!) before heading down the street to Kaylyn’s parents’ house. They opened up their home for guests to come and spend time at hanging out and catching up in the gap between the ceremony and reception. This is where we took all the bridal party portraits & photos of Peter & Kaylyn together! This was a really fun and relaxed way to spend the afternoon and we jusssttttt missed the rain! After we finished up with photos, Kaylyn & Peter had a log sawing ceremony. A log sawing ceremony is a German wedding tradition that represents the first obstacle that a couple must overcome together in their marriage. Peter & Kaylyn were surrounded by their family and friends during this ceremony to represent the support that they will provide for the couple throughout their marriage. Such a fun addition to the afternoon!

After the log sawing ceremony was complete, we headed out to Heist + Co. in Harrison for a quick drink before heading to The 1913 Heartland Barn for the reception! The bridal party made their entrance, the speeches were awesome, the first dances were emotional, the bouquet & garter were tossed, the cake was cut (& smashed!) and the party started! This was such a fun ending to a beautiful day and I’m so beyond thrilled for Kaylyn & Peter to finally be married! Kaylyn & Peter, I wish you nothing but the very best! Congratulations again and thank you so much for trusting me to capture this special day for you two!!
